
Field Hockey Winning Streak Snapped by #13 Penn State, 2-0

The No. 13-ranked Penn State field hockey team snapped Syracuse's 10-game winning streak with a 2-0 victory at Bigler Field Tuesday afternoon. It marked just the second time this season that the Orangewomen were shut out. The last time Syracuse failed to get on the scoreboard was Sept. 9, when it lost a 1-0 overtime decision to Northeastern.
Timarie Legel scored both of Penn State's goals in the first half. Her first tally came just 3:26 into the contest. It was unassisted. Her second marker came with 26:09 remaining in the opening period and was assisted by Jill Martz.
Penn State (10-6) outshot SU, 13-1. The Nittany Lions limited the Orangewomen to just one penalty corner, while forcing nine themselves.
Sophomore goalkeeper Betsy Wagner (Cherry Hills, Colo./Colorado Academy) made her third consecutive start for Syracuse. The ECAC Goalkeeper of the Week and BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week totalled seven saves, including five in the first half.
The Nittany Lions improved their advantage in the all-time series between the two teams to 19-0-1.
Syracuse, who moved up to No. 18 in this week's STX/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll, returns home for its final regular-season match against Connecticut on Sunday, Oct. 28, at 1 p.m. The Orangewomen, who are 8-0 on Coyne Field this season, will be playing for sole posssession of the BIG EAST regular-season title. They are 12-3 overall, 4-0 in the BIG EAST.
On Nov. 3, Syracuse will participate in its 13th-consecutive BIG EAST Tournament at Boston College. Regardless of Sunday's outcome, the Orangewomen will be the No. 1 seed.
