
Syracuse To Meet Providence On Saturday

The Syracuse University women’s volleyball team plays Providence College on Saturday in Providence, RI at 2 p.m. The Sunday match versus Brown, previously scheduled for Sept. 15, was cancelled.
Syracuse (11-9, 2-5 BIG EAST) looks to extend its three-match winning streak, the longest of the season. SU swept the last two matches against Colgate and Siena, 3-0. Senior co-captain Carol Munger (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) led the offense with 11 kills against Colgate. She has averaged 2.98 kils per game in her 42 games played.
Freshmen Rachel Crooks (Green Springs, OH/Clyde), Morgan Jones (Malad, ID/Malad) and Ashley Kimes (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley North) provided offensive power against the Raiders. Crooks recorded nine kills, Jones tallied eight kills on 11 attempts with one error for a career-high .636 attack percentage and Kimes chipped in eight kills.
Senior co-captain Noreen Carroll (La Grange, IL/Lyons Township) dished out 33 assists. She also had four kills, three digs and one block assist. With the three games played and the one block assist, Carroll moved into 10th place in career games played at SU with 428 and is tied for 10th in career block assists with 234.
Providence is 6-16 on the season and 0-8 in the BIG EAST. The Friar’s Annie Cella joined Carroll this week as BIG EAST co-Player of the Week. The senior outside hitter recorded two double-doubles against Iona and Manhattan.
Providence leads the series 24-14, but Syracuse won the 2000 match, 3-0.
