In his 10th year as head coach, Jim Boeheim posted his third 26-win season. The Orangemen finished tied for first place in The BIG EAST Conference for the regular season. Four players averaged double figures in scoring. Pearl Washington led the way, averaging 17.3 points per game.
Year IX: 8-0 In BIG EAST Home Games
Syracuse was posted a 26-6 record in the 1985-86 campaign. The Orangemen finished their BIG EAST regular season schedule with a 14-2 mark, tying St. John's for first place. The 14 wins was the highest win total for the Orange in BIG EAST history. SU went 8-0 in BIG EAST games played in the Carrier Dome and 6-2 in conference road games. Syracuse made its 16th straight trip to a post season tournament and it fourth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Orangemen defeated Brown, 101-52 in the first round. In the second round of the East Region SU faced Navy and David Robinson. Peal Washington had 28 points and eight assists, but the Orange lost to Navy, 97-85. Robinson scored 35 points and had seven blocked shots for the Midshipmen.

Sophomore center Rony Seikaly was sixth in the nation in blocked shots, averaging 3.0 blocks per game.
Factoid For An Orangemen Junkie
In an intra-squad scrimmage played on November 18, 1985, a Pearl Washington-led Orange team defeated a Rony Seikaly and Rafael Addison powered White team, 87-83. Washington led all scorers with 29 points. Addison led the White team with 24 points. Wendell Alexis posted 20 points for the Orange and Seikaly had 19 points in a losing cause for the White.
BIG GAMES: The BIG EAST Tournament
After handling Boston College in the first round of the BIG EAST tournament, 102-79, Syracuse defeated rival Georgetown 75-73 in the semifinal. Pearl Washington poured in 21 points and had eight assists. Rafael Addison added 15 points while Howard Triche scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the win against the Hoyas. The two teasm that tied for first place in the regular season met in the finals. SU lost to St. John's, 70-69. St. John's Ron Rowan hit shot in the closing seconds, Washington tried to put the Orange back on top, but his drive to the lane ended in a Walter Berry blocked shot.
