The SU football squad is ranked 19th in the Associated Press Poll and 22nd in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll after its 22-14 victory at Virginia Tech. The Orangemen (7-2 overall, 4-0 BIG EAST) have won seven straight games and are in first place in the BIG EAST by one-half game over Miami. The Hokies were ranked 5th/4th prior to the loss to Syracuse.
Senior All-America candidate Dwight Freeney registered one sack against Virginia Tech, increasing his season total to 14.5, which is one-half sack shy of the NCAA and SU single-season record of 15. North Carolina's Julius Peppers set the NCAA standard last year, while Tim Green owns the SU single-season mark, set in 1984.
Syracuse will return to action on Saturday, November 10, when it hosts West Virginia in the Carrier Dome.
