Senior forward Michelle Aronowicz (Exton, Pa./Downingtown) was selected as the BIG EAST co-Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, Oct. 8. It marked the second-consecutive week that she won the award. On this occasion, the elder Aronowicz sister was honored for the eight points she posted in two wins against Fairfield and Massachusetts on Oct. 1 and Oct. 6, respectively.
In a 5-0 victory against Fairfield, Aronowicz recorded the first hat trick of her career. With 10 seconds left against Massachusetts, she forced a penalty corner and then assisted on the game-winning score. She finished the game against the Minutewomen with two assists.
Aronowicz leads the Orangewomen with 19 points, including six goals and a conference-high seven assists. She is tied for first in the BIG EAST in assists with Villanova's Brooke Bergmann.
In the Oct. 9th STX/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll, Syracuse held on to its No. 19 national ranking for the second-straight week. The Orangewomen are in the midst of a six-game winning streak. They have won all five of their games at home this season and are winners of their last six at Coyne Field dating back to Oct. 22, 2000 when they cruised past Quinnipiac, 4-0.
Syracuse puts that streak and its 8-2 record to the test this week with a nonconference matchup against Cornell at home on Wednesday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m.
A battle of BIG EAST unbeatens will take place at Coyne Field on Sunday, Oct. 14, at 1 p.m. when Syracuse (2-0) meets first-place Villanova (3-0).
