
Orangewomen Basketball Inks Four Players for 2002-03

Marchele Campbell, a 5-4 guard from Kansas City, Kans., averaged 24.1 points per game as a junior at Schlagle High School. Campbell made 90 three-pointers last season for the Stallions, connecting on 53.6 percent of her attempts from behind the arc. She was an All-State selection in 2001 and a two-time Kansas City Star Top Five honoree. Campbell is also a Street & Smith Honorable Mention All-American.
Melissa Gathers is a 5-11 small forward from Upper Marlboro, Md. Gathers was Prince George's Journal first-team selection and a first-team all-county player. She also was an honorable-mention pick by the Washington Post. In addition to her play at Fredrick Douglass High School, Gathers also played for the MetroStars AAU team that took third place in the national tournament in 2001.
Tierra Jackson, a high school teammate of Gathers, is a 6-0 power forward also from Upper Marlboro, Md. Jackson is a three-time Washington Post honorable-mention selection. She was also named to the Prince George's Journal Second Team in 2000-01.
Jill Norton, a 6-2 center from Marlton, N.J., rounds out the early signing class. A Bishop Eustace Prep product, Norton averaged 14.5 points and 9.3 rebounds per game as a junior. She also blocked 3.4 shots per contest last season for the Crusaders. Norton is a three-time all-conference performer and a Street & Smith Honorable Mention All-American.
The Orangewomen are currently 3-0 after sweeping Long Beach State, Cal State Northridge and Pepperdine to open the season in California. Syracuse makes its home debut on Sunday, Nov. 25 versus #19/#18 Michigan. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Manley Field House.
