
Syracuse Loses Swim Meet to Florida Atlantic

SYRACUSE, N.Y.- The Florida Atlantic men swam to a victory over Syracuse 138-82, while the Owls beat the Orangewomen 136-98 at the Ted Webster Pool. This is the second loss of the season for the Orangemen and Orangewomen, they are both now 2-2.
The Orangewomen captured first and second place finishes in the 500 freestyle. Freshman Ashley Danowski (Landisville, PA/Hempfield/Lancaster AC) won the event with a time of 5:05.63 and freshman Lindsey Clark (Dover, NH/Dover) swam to a second place finish with a time of 5:10.82.
The Orangewomen dominated the 200 backstroke. Senior Kelly Bryon (Uxbidge, ONT/Uxbridge SC) won the event with a tim of 2:07.13 and sophomore Megan Dany (Newtown, PA/NRG Swimming) captured second place with a time of 2:07.60.
Sophomore Elyse McDonough (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem Central H.S.) won the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:05.89 and placed second in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:07.62.
Senior Djordje Filipovich (Belgrade, Yuguslavia/ Red Star) captured two first place finishes. In the 200 freestyle he won with a time of 1:45.18. In the 200 individual medley he captured first place with a time of 1:57.57.
The Orangemen won the 400 Freestyle Relay. Freshmen AJ Newman (Narromine, Australia/ Narromine/ Waverley College), Mike Anstrom (Springfield, VA/Victor?s SC/Lake Braddock), Josh Scott (Clayton, CA/Clayton Valley/Terrapin Swim Team) and sophomore Spencer Raymond (Idstein, Germany/Singapore American School) swam to a first place finish with a time of 3:10.57.
A new pool record was set in the women's 200 individual medley. Florida Atlantic's Marina Mulyayeva won the event in 2:05.65. She broke the old record of 2:05.95, set in 1997 by Miami's Kristel Tellegan.
The Syracuse swimming and diving team will compete in the Nike Cup in Chapel Hill, North Carolina on Nov. 15-17.
