
Munger Records Career-High 22 Kills In 3-1 Loss To West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, WV - Senior co-captain Carol Munger (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) recorded a career-high 22 kills, but the Syracuse women’s volleyball team lost to West Virginia, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon at the West Virginia Coliseum. SU’s record now stands at 14-11 overall and 3-7 in the BIG EAST, while West Virginia extended its record to 7-18 overall and 3-7 in the BIG EAST.
Syracuse hit .152 in the 23-30, 26-30, 37-35, 26-30 loss. Senior co-captain Noreen Carroll (La Grange, IL/Lyons Township) tallied her seventh double-double of the season with 58 assists and a season-high 21 digs. Freshman Rachel Crooks (Green Springs, OH/Clyde) also had a double-double with 10 kills and 14 digs. Crooks added a career-high seven block assists. Freshman Ashley Kimes (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley North) contributed 13 kills, and junior Abby Van Mater (West Chester, PA/Unionville) hit in double figures for the second consecutive match with 11 kills.
Sophomore Michaela Skelly (Simi Valley, CA/Royal) tied a career high with 20 digs, and classmate Christen Casey (Long Beach, IN/Marquette) joined her in double figures with 17 digs. Senior Jing Jing Wang (Beijng 100/Beijing, China) recorded 10 digs.
Syracuse returns to action next weekend when it faces Seton Hall on Friday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. and St. John’s on Sunday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. Both matches are at the Women’s Building.
