
Shumpert's 22 Leads Orange To Exhibition Win

SYRACUSE, NY - Senior forward Preston Shumpert scored 22 points and pulled down seven rebounds to lead the Syracuse men’s basketball team to an 87-71 win against Nike Elite on Thursday night in SU’s second exhibition game.
After being down by 12 points midway through the first half, Syracuse picked up the pace with a 26-13 run, including 10 points by Shumpert, to enter the intermission ahead, 42-41.
Junior guard Kueth Duany erupted at the start of the second half, scoring all 10 of his points in a 14-4 Orangemen run to give Syracuse a double-digit lead, 56-45.
Nike Elite battled back to come within five points of SU, 58-53, with 11:50 left in the game. Syracuse responded with 11 unanswered points, including two three-pointers by Shumpert, to take a 69-53 advantage.SU led by as much as 22 before finishing with an 87-71 win.
Freshman center Craig Forth scored 12 points, including 10 in the first half, and junior guard DeShaun Williams scored 10 points and dished out seven assists.
Rick Hughes scored 24 points and pulled down 13 rebounds to lead Nike Elite.
Syracuse opens the regualar season on Monday, Nov. 12 in the Preseason NIT against Manhattan at 7 p.m. in the Carrier Dome.
