
James and McBride Lead SU Past NWBL Elite

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Senior guard Jaime James (Plymouth, Mass./ Plymouth North) led all scorers with 21 points as the Syracuse women’s basketball team defeated the NWBL Elite, 87-64, in an exhibition game at Manley Field House on Friday night.
The Elite played the Orangewomen close in the first half, trailing 45-36 at intermission. SU sophomore guard Julie McBride (Mechanicville, N.Y./Catholic Central) scored 13 of her 20 points in the first half, shooting 5-of-10 from the floor, including 3-of-7 from three-point range. McBride finished the night with six assists, three rebounds and two steals.
Former Syracuse standout Kristen McCory brought the Elite within 45-40 with two quick baskets in the second half before the Orangewomen pulled away. Leading 66-57 with 7:34 remaining in the second half, SU went on an 11-0 run during the next 3:30 to extend its lead to 20 points Ten points from James, who was 3-of-3 from the floor and 4-of-4 from the line during the run, highlighted the spurt.
Senior forward Jazmine Wright (South Orange, N.J./Columbia) grabbed a game-high nine rebounds and added nine points. James had four steals and dished out five assists while committing only one turnover. Sophomore guard Shannon Perry (Providence, R.I./LaSalle) shot 6-of-9 from the field and finished with 13 points.
McCory led the Elite with 19 points and six rebounds.
The Orangewomen will begin their regular season with a three-game, west-coast road trip. SU and Long Beach State will tip-off at 10:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on Saturday, Nov. 17 in the season-opener. Syracuse also faces Cal State-Northridge on Nov. 19 and Pepperdine on Nov. 21.
