Orangewomen Defeat California in Overtime, 2-1

Junior midfielder Kristin Aronowicz (Exton, Pa./Downingtown) shoved in a rebound from her sister, Michelle, at 6:08 into the first overtime period to lift No. 18-ranked Syracuse to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory against California in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Maryland. It was only the second time that the Orangewomen won their first-round match in the national tournament.
Freshman reserve forward Meredith Gettel (Rehresburg, Pa./Tulpehocken) tied the game at 1-1 with a breakaway goal less than four minutes remaining in regulation. She was assisted by fellow classmate Joanne Lombard (Ambler, Pa./Gwynedd Academy)on the play.
In overtime, Syracuse outshot Cal, 5-2. The Orangewomen (16-3) play second-seeded Maryland (18-3) in the quarterfinals on Sunday, Nov. 11.
