SYRACUSE, NY - Freshman Hakim Warrick recorded his first collegiate double-double, with 22 points and 11 rebounds, to lead the Orangemen past Cornell, 76-58, on Thursday night at the Carrier Dome. Syracuse increased its record to 7-0 and extended its November unbeaten streak to 26 games. Cornell slipped to 0-4.
SU raced out to a 24-10 lead in the first 13 minutes of the game, thanks in part to 10 points from Warrick. Senior forward Preston Shumpert chipped in nine points in the first half to help give Syracuse a 34-25 lead at intermission.
The Big Red came within six points of the lead, 36-30, at the start of the second half, before the Orangemen put the game away with a 26-10 run. Warrick and Shumpert scored 12 and 10 points, respectively, in the spurt.
Shumpert finished the game with a team-high 23 points and five assists. Ka'ron Barnes led Cornell with 15 points.
The 12th-ranked Orangemen have not lost a November game since November 28, 1996, when SU lost to Kentucky, 87-53, in the first round of the Great Alaska Shootout.
