
Orangewomen Softball Loses Two at Tiger Invitational

The Orangewomen (1-3) offense was limited to just five hits in the two games. No player had more than one hit on the day.
Junior Heather Brown (Bloomfield, NM) suffered both losses on the mound. Brown (1-2) started the first game of the day versus the Buckeyes, allowing seven hits over six innings. She gave up just one earned run and struck out four.
Brown lost the nightcap versus Purdue in her first relief appearance of the season. She gave up one run on two hits and struck out two in one inning of work.
Sophomore Tara DiMaggio (Hopewell Junction, NY) started versus the Boilermakers, throwing four and one-third innings of no-hit ball. DiMaggio gave up just two hits in six-plus innings, striking out four and walking four.
The Orangewomen broke an 18-inning scoreless drought versus Purdue with a run in the bottom half of the sixth. Sophomore Cheryl Julicher (Williamsville, NY) provided the big hit with an RBI double that scored senior Missy Bieman (Wingham, Ontario).
SU took a 1-0 lead into the top of the seventh. The Boilermakers tied the score on the very first pitch of the inning with a home run by Jessica Jones off DiMaggio. Chrissy Davie drove in the winning run with a one-out single off Brown.
Freshman Nikki Lincoln (Baton Rouge, LA) made her first collegiate start versus Purdue. Lincoln went 1-for-3, breaking up Purdues no-hitter with a single in the bottom of the fifth inning. Lincoln was also strong defensively, making several plays at third base.
The Orangewomen begin the elimination portion of the tournament as the fourth seed. They get a rematch with third-seeded Ohio State at 9 a.m. on Sunday. The winner of the Syracuse-Ohio State game will take on top-seeded Auburn in the semifinal round.
