SU Tennis Faces Cornell, Georgetown in Weekend Dual Matches

Fridays match in Ithaca will take place at the Reis Tennis Center, while Sundays match is at the Drumlins Tennis Center on Nottingham Road. Syracuse is 2-1 this spring, winning its first two matches of the spring against Colgate (6-1 on January 31) and West Virginia (5-2 on February 9). Fridays match is the first away match of the spring season, but the teams second trip to Ithaca. SU competed in the Cornell Winter Tennis Classic February 2-4. The Orangewomen won one singles and one doubles flight at the tournament.
Sophomore Masha Kabanova (Moscow, Russia) won the Flight B Singles bracket the Cornell tournament. As the No. 1 seed, she won three consecutive matches to claim the crown. Kabanova leads the Orangewomen with 13 singles victories and has won a team-high 71.9 percent of her matches. She is 23-9 this year. Seniors Michelle Neveklovska (West Vancouver, British Columbia) and Zuzanna Borucka (Gdansk, Poland) won the first doubles flight at the tournament. The number-two seeded duo posted three wins en route to the win. The pair is Syracuses top doubles team with a 14-6 record. Neveklovska leads the team with 25 combined wins, including 11 singles victories. Borucka is tied for second with Kabanova with 23 wins.
Cornell is 3-2 this year, including its fall schedule. The Big Red have won both of their matches 7-0, defeating Colgate and St. Bonaventure Universities on January 27. They hosted their annual tournament in early February and have not competed since. Georgetown is 2-4 in 2000-01, losing both dual matches it has played this spring. The Hoyas lost to George Mason, 4-3, and Maryland, 7-0. They play American University Friday before coming to Syracuse.
