Syracuse University vs. University of Connecticut
February 19, 2001
Preston Shumpert (Forward)
On the intensity of the game:
"We just worked hard to get free for our shots. There was a lot of intensity and effort out there tonight. It was a must win for both teams and we fought for every inch. Both teams were very focused and intense. We were starting to fall in the Big EAST and needed this win to get back on track. "
On the team's defense:
"On defense we wanted to get our hands in their face and make them take tough shots. Most of their points game off second-chance points. We did get the big rebound at the end when we really needed it."
Kueth Duany (Forward)
On getting the 20th win:
"It was a very big win for us. The number 19 was on the board for a long time. We wanted to get number 20. Getting our 20th win against a good team like Connecticut and a good coach builds our confidence."
On his own performance: "I felt that I was very active and involved. I tried on every play even if it is just tipping the ball. There were many situations when I just wanted to keep the ball alive. Games like this one against a great team and a great coach help me build confidence."
Jim Boeheim
Syracuse Head Coach
Post Game Quotes vs. Connecticut

On the game:
"Preston (Shumpert) got good looks early and we found him. When you get that kind of shooting performance you've got to put teams away. I was disappointed in our last two possessions of the first half. That got Connecticut back in the game. When they cut it to two (in the second half) we went with a smaller lineup for offense. We got pounded on the boards again. It would've been a horrific loss had we not come together at the end of the game, but this team seems to come together at the end of games. Coming off two tough losses in this league, its good to get this win."
On Allen Griffin's clutch free throws in the finla minute of the game:
"Allen had only taken a couple of shots before he sank those free throws. That is huge for us."
On the team:
"We have to find a way to get other guys involved on offense. Somebody has to make shots in order for us to win games. I just don't think we're scoring enough points. One guy isn't going to be enough. We've got to get more scoring. Our defense has kept us in there. We have played with a lot of determination and grit."
