RALEIGH, NC - The Orangemen rallied from an 11-point, second-half deficit to defeat the Wolfpack, 54-53 at the Entertainment and Sports Arena in Raleigh, N.C.
Trailing 51-42 with just under four minutes on the game clock, Syracuse charged back. Back-to-back three pointers by DeShaun Williams and Preston Shumpert cut into the lead and a Williams free throw made it 51-49, NC State ahead, with 2:54 remaining.
The Wolfpack answered with a basket but a steal by Allen Griffin led to another three-pointer from Shumpert and the gap was narrowed to one point.
Two critical rebounds and a layup from Damone Brown in the final 40 seconds, sealed the SU victory at 54-53. After halting an NC State possession with a rebound, Brown scored on a layin at the other end with 15 seconds left to give SU its first lead since the opening half.
The Wolfpack had two shots at a win but Brown ended the threat with another defensive rebound, his 10th of the game.
Brown finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds, marking his team-leading 11th double-double of the campaign. Shumpert kept SU in the game early by scoring his clubs first nine points and 15 of the 21 posted by the Orangemen at the intermission.
Griffin, who played all 40 minutes for the sixth time this season, had eight assists and four steals.
