Throwers Excel at Income Tax Classic

The Orange throwing events fared particularly well led by junior Tara Trammell (Constantia, NY). Trammell won the shot put with a personal-best throw of 39'1.25". She also finished second in the discus with a toss of 125'5". Both marks qualified Trammell for the BIG EAST Outdoor Championship.
On the men's side, Syracuse swept the top three spots in the shot put. Sophomore Tim Adrian (Moorpark, CA) won the event with a throw of 52'2.5". Classmate Steve Bedard (Windsor, Ontario) was second with a mark of 50'5.25", while senior Alex Brown (New Paltz, NY) placed third with a throw of 50'4.5". Adrian also placed second in the discus with a mark of 159'9".
Bedard's day also included a season-best hammer throw of 149'9". The mark made him eligible for the conference outdoor championship.
Syracuse boasted four other first-place finishes. Sophomore Joel Carusone (Slingerland, NY) won the pole vault, clearing the bar at 15'6". Fellow sophomore Sean Burnett (Uniondale, NY) was first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.15, while Orangwoman sprinter Alison Culley (Foxborough, MA) crossed the tape first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.03.
Senior Opal Jones (Capitol Heights, MD) and sophomore Kawanna Skinner (Durham, NC) finished first and third, respectively, in the 100-meter dash. Jones clocked a 14.55, while Skinner came in at 15.48.
Syracuse will return home on Saturday, April 21 when it hosts the Judith and Leslie Vielbig Invitational.
