
Track & Field's Brown, Field Hockey's Fitzpatrick Earn SU Athletics Department's Highest Honor

Brown, a senior captain, finished second in the shot put and seventh in the weight throw at the 2000 BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Championships. He finished fourth in the shot put at the conference's outdoor meet. This year, Brown has set BIG EAST qualifying marks in the indoor shot put, outdoor shot put and discus.
Brown is the winner of the 2000-01 BIG EAST Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year award representing Syracuse. He is a member of the Dean's List. Brown, a health and exercise science major, is a member of the BIG EAST Academic All-Star Team and the Syracuse Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

Fitzpatrick, a fifth-year senior and team captain, was first-team All-BIG EAST this season after recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament last season. Fitzpatrick also earned first team honors as a junior. This past season, Fitzpatrick was named first-team Mid-East Region by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). Fitzpatrick became the ninth Syracuse field hockey player to earn All-American honors. She was named to the third team in 2000. As a freshman, Fitzpatrick was The BIG EAST Conference's Rookie of the Year.
Fitzpatrick, who is majoring in nursing after completing her degree in biology, is a member of the NFHCA national academic team. She has been named to the BIG EAST Academic All-Star Team. Fitzpatrick won the 2001 Orange Plus Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. She is a Syracuse Scholar-Athlete, having earned a 3.4 grade point average or higher for nine consecutive semesters. Fitzpatrick is also a member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll at Syracuse.
