Syracuse is now 12-21 overall and 3-9 in the BIG EAST. Boston College owns an overall record of 23-21 and a 6-10 league mark.
The two-run double was Bieman's second game-winning RBI of the week. She also drove in the winning run in Syracuse's 2-1 victory versus Siena on April 19. A pinch-hit walk by freshman Ceci Durazo (San Diego, CA) started the seventh-inning rally. She moved to second on an infield hit by sophomore Christina Holowich (Castro Valley, CA). A walk by sophomore Jackie Herrman (Warren, OH) loaded the bases for Bieman, who delivered the two-base hit and the victory.
Sophomore Tara DiMaggio (Hopewell Junction, NY) threw her third shutout of the season. She scattered eight hits and struck out six. DiMaggio is now 5-9 for the season.
Freshman catcher Jaime Grillo (Brentwood, NY) provided the key defensive play, picking off a runner at third in the third inning. With two runners in scoring position and one out, Grillo caught Boston College baserunner Alison Erbig off third base for the second out. DiMaggio halted the rally by inducing a line drive to third base.
Holowich recorded her third three-hit game of the week, going 3-for-4 with a run scored. Freshman Nikki Lincoln (Baton Rouge, LA) and sophomore Kristen Collins (Stow, MA) also had hits for the Orangewomen. In six games this week, Collins led the team with a .450 batting average (9-for-20). Holowich just missed recording her second straight week of batting .400 or better recording a .391 average (9-for-23). She leads the team with a .298 average for the season.
The day did not get off to a promising start as the Eagles scored a run in the second and one in the fourth to claim a 2-0 victory of their own in game one. An RBI double by Erin Mackey and run-scoring single by pitcher TeKae Malandris would be all Boston College needed.
The Syracuse offense was limited to four hits in the game, two of them by Collins. Bieman and senior Shanna Newell (Fort Edward, NY) also added hits for Syracuse.
Junior Heather Brown (Bloomfield, NM) suffered the loss, dropping her record to 6-10 on the year. Brown allowed seven hits and struck out six in the complete-game effort.
The Orangewomen return home for a 10-game homestand featuring five consecutive doubleheaders. Syracuse starts the long stretch at the Softball Stadium at Skytop with a 4 p.m. twin bill versus Penn State on Tuesday, April 24. The Cornell Big Red come to town on April 26 before SU gets back into BIG EAST play with doublheaders versus Villanova and Rutgers on April 28 and 29.
