A BRIEF OVERVIEW …
Syracuse is riding a three-game winning streak after taking two from Cornell on Thursday, 4-1 and 2-0 … Since falling to 5-16 after a doubleheader loss to Notre Dame, the Orangewomen have gone 10-6 … Villanova comes in winners of 24 of its last 25 games … The Wildcats had a 21-game winning streak snapped on April 22 with a 1-0 loss to St. John’s … VU swept Monmouth its last time out, 5-1 and 1-0 on April 24 … The Wildcats are receiving votes in the is week’s USA Today/NFCA Top 25 … Rutgers has been playing .500 ball in its last eight games … The Scarlet Knights split a doubleheader with Hofstra on April 25, winning the first game, 6-5, and losing game two, 3-1 … Rutgers is at Syracuse’s travel partner, Connecticut, on Saturday before coming to SU on Sunday.

Saturday’s games are the first-ever meetings between the two schools in softball.
THE ORANGEWOMEN VS. RUTGERS …
The Scarlet Knights hold a 1-0-1 advantage in the all-time series … The two teams played a doubleheader at Rutgers last season … Rutgers won the first game, 8-3 … The second game was halted after a sudden downpour in the seventh inning, resulting in a 3-3 tie.
LAST TIME OUT … SU SWEEPS CORNELL,br> Syracuse pitchers Tara DiMaggio and Heather Brown limited the Big Red offense to just one run and five hits in 14 innings to lead the Orangewomen to a 4-1, 2-0 sweep … DiMaggio gave up a leadoff home run in the first, but held Cornell to only two hits and no runs after the long ball … Brown faced the minimum threw four innings, allowing just one hit … For the game, she struck out seven … Offensively, DiMaggio, Newell and Holowich all had hits in both games of the twin bill.
TIMELY HITTING CARRIES ORANGEWOMEN
All six of the Orangewomen’s runs versus Cornell scored with two outs … RBI singles by freshman catcher Jaime Grillo and freshman second baseman Nikki Lincoln put SU up 2-1 in the bottom of the first in game one … A two-out double by sophomore centefielder Christina Holowich plated two runs to round out the game-one scoring … The Big Red appeared to be out of a two-on, two-out jam in the fifth inning of game two, but a throwing error by pitcher Nicole Zitarelli on a comebacker by freshman Cortney Nickerson resulted in both SU runs … Over half of the Orangewomen’s RBIs for the season have come with two outs (26-of-51) … senior Missy Bieman and Holowich lead the team with six two-out runs batted in each, while Grillo has collected five.
