
Blue Defeats Orange in 2001 SU Football Spring Scrimmage

Anderson completed 9-of-13 passes for 111 yards, while senior Madei Williams completed 6-of-14 passes for 80 yards. Junior quarterback Troy Nunes was 4-of-4 passing for 68 yards before injuring his left knee early in the scrimmage. Nunes sat out for the rest of the scrimmage.
Redshirt freshman tailback Walter Reyes paced the offensive backfield with 61 yards on six carries, including the game-winning touchdown for the Blue squad on a 17-yard run late in the scrimmage.
Junior tailback Barry Baker made his debut in the SU offensive backfield after playing linebacker in 2000. Baker was the second-leading rusher, gaining 58 yards on eight carries, including a 17-yard touchdown run for the Orange squad that tied the game at 17. Junior Chris Davis and sophomore Diamond Ferri also recorded rushing touchdowns. Davis scored the first touchdown of the scrimmage on a nine yard run, while Ferri had a four-yard carry for a touchdown. Ferri gained 49 yards on eight carries.
Junior Maurice McClain paced the Blue defense with six tackles, one interception and one pass breakup while sophomore Christian Ferrara had two of the Blue team's five sacks.
Junior Keeon Walker had six stops to lead the Orange defense and sophomore Josh Thomas talled two quarterback sacks. Harris recorded one interception and returned it 48 yards.
Placekickers Mike Shafer and Collin Barber connected on field goals for the Blue and Orange squads, respectively. Shafer opened the scoring with a 46-yard field goal and Barber hit a 49-yarder for the Orange team's first points.
Syracuse will begin the 2001 campaign against Georgia Tech at the Kickoff Classic on Sunday, August 26 at the Meadowlands.
