The seven points Sullivan totalled in the contest (five goals, two assists) were a career-high. The five goals matched a personal best.
The Greyhounds were aided by five man-up goals on six attempts. Loyola (5-2) led 6-5 at halftime. After Syracuse's Spencer Wright (San Diego, CA/Junipero Serra) notched the game's first goal off a feed from junior midfielder Josh Coffman (Carthage, NY/Carthage) at the 12:14 mark, the Greyhounds went up 2-1 with goals by senior midfielder Gavin Prout (Whitby, Ontario/Gannon) and junior long-stick defenseman Mike Stromberg (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. Hebron). SU first-year attackman Michael Powell (Carthage, NY/Carthage) tied the game at 2-2 with 8:20 remaining in the first quarter. Sullivan tallied his first goal of the afternoon off a pass from senior midfielder Bobby Horsey at the 6:12 mark which gave the Greyhounds another one-goal lead (3-2), but sophomore attackman Michael Springer (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) evened the contest at 3-3 with 2:13 left in the opening stanza.
In the second quarter, Loyola built another two-goal lead.
Prout and sophomore Chris Summers registered the first two scores of the period and the Greyhounds led 5-3 at the 8:10 mark.
Wright received a crisp pass from Powell in front of the crease and flipped a behind-the-back shot past Loyola goalie Jason Born at the six-minute mark. Freshman attackman Brian Nee (Cockeysville, MD/Boys' Latin) netted his 11th goal of the season when he scored on a man-up situation with 3:25 remaining in the half. Wright assisted and the play tied the score at 5-5. Sullivan tallied once more to give the Greyhounds a 6-5 advantage at halftime. He scored his second goal with 23 seconds remaining in the first half.
Syracuse (5-2) outscored Loyola, 5-2, in the third period to take a 10-8 lead heading into the final stanza. Junior midfielder Brian Solliday (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage), junior attackman Liam Banks (Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) and Springer were responsible for the quarter's first three goals. Banks recorded his 100th career point when he assisted on Springer's goal. The mini-run gave SU an 8-6 lead at the 8:30 mark.
Summers and freshman Stephan Brundage (Camillus, NY/West Genesee) helped keep Loyola close. Brundage's score cut SU's lead to 9-8 with 1:47 left in the third quarter. Springer tallied an unassisted marker with one second remaining and that gave the Orangemen their 10-8 lead heading into the final 15 minutes.
SU held two four-goal leads in the fourth quarter. Sophomore midfielder Pat Hogan (St. Louis, MO/DeSmet Jesuit) and Coffman each scored to put the Orangemen ahead, 12-8 with 11:33 on the clock.
Sullivan and Prout connected on an extra-man tally at the 10:40 mark to cut it to 12-9, but Powell upped it back to four goals for Syracuse at the 8:06 mark when he punched in a Banks pass. That would be the last goal for the Orangemen. Loyola rattled off the final five goals, two by Sullivan, two by Prout, but perhaps the biggest goal of the game was the one that Horsey used to tie the game at 13-13 with 27 seconds remaining in regulation.
Besides Sullivan, Prout hurt the Orangemen with four goals and three assists. Summers finished with two goals and two assists. For the second-straight game and third time this season, Powell led SU with two goals and four assists. Banks finished with one goal and three assists, Springer had three goals and Coffman contributed two goals and one assist.
Senior face-off specialist Chris Cercy (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) won 22-of-29 draws for Syracuse. Fifth-year senior Rob Mulligan (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) totalled 11 saves. The Orangemen will get right back into action on Tuesday, April 10 when they host No. 14-ranked Cornell at 7 p.m.
