
Orange Rowers Select 2001-02 Captains As They Prepare For NCAA Championships

Graves, a 2001 Verizon Academic-All District I selection, is the fourth seat on SU's varsity eight. DiLoreto is the coxswain and Kirchhoff rows in the fifth seat of the boat. Jillian Kott (McLean, VA), the Orange's first-ever first-team All-American, is the stroke. Senior and captain, Katie Modolo (St. Catherines, Ontario) rows in the seventh seat, while junior Alicea Kochis (Naugatuck, CT) is the sixth seat. The Netherlands connection of Helen Tanger (Amstelveen, The Netherlands) and Froukje Wegman (Haastrect, The Netherlands) row in seats three and two, respectively. Senior Meredith Kyle (Rochester, NY) rows in the bow position.
The alternates for the Orangewomen are Shannon Mercurio (Saranac Lake, NY, Corcoran HS) and Seana Miller (West Redding, CT).
The 2001 NCAA Rowing Championships is held on Lake Lanier in Gainesville, GA, on May 25-27.
It is the third time in the five-year history of the NCAA Rowing
Championships that Syracuse University's varsity eight has gained an
at-large bid to the competition. Syracuse's varsity eight is ranked
fifth by the USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association. This season
the Orangewomen won the BIG EAST Rowing Championships, the Orange
Challenge Cup and the Orange Plus Cup. SU's head rowing coach, Kris
Sanford was named BIG EAST Coach of the Year.
