Under the direction of Sanford, Syracuse's varsity eight had the most successful season in school history. The varsity eight was consistently ranked in the top seven nationally. The Orangewomen started the season by winning their first eight races, defeating 21 crews. Syracuse was the inaugural BIG EAST Rowing Challenge champions and Sanford was named conference coach of the year. The Orangewomen came in third at the Eastern Sprints, the top finish in school history at the event. Syracuse's varsity eight closed out the season finishing sixth at the NCAA Rowing Championships. The sixth-place showing is the best finish in school history.
Kott, SU's first-ever first-team All-American, and Modolo were named to the Mid-Atlantic first team for the second season in a row. Kott was the stroke for the Orange's varsity eight, while Modolo rowed in seventh seat. For Kochis and Wegman it is the first regional honor they have received at Syracuse. Kochis was the sixth seat in the varsity eight and Wegman was the second seat.
The National Coach of the Year and nationwide All-Americans will be announced in June.
