Carroll Named Tournament MVP As Syracuse Defeats Jacksonville

Senior co-captain Noreen Carroll (La Grange, IL/Lyons Township) was named tournament MVP, leading the Syracuse University women’s volleyball team to a pair of wins at the War Eagle Tournament held at Auburn University in Auburn, AL. SU (4-3) defeated Jacksonville, 3-0, in its last match on Sunday afternoon.
Against Jacksonville, Carroll tallied five kills, recorded a .400 hitting percentage, dished out 34 assists and had five block assists. Freshman Laura Koster (Houston, TX/Westfield) was named to the all-tournament team for the second straight week. She recorded her first collegiate double-double in the win versus Jacksonville. She tallied 15 kills and a career-high 14 digs and committed only three hitting errors for a .480 attack percentage. SU’s hitting percentage as a team was .294 compared to Jacksonville’s .180. The Orangewomen also outblocked the Dolphins, 11-5. Junior Abby Van Mater (West Chester, PA/Unionville) led SU in blocks with six (one solo, five assists). Van Mater also recorded nine kills and committed only two errors for a .412 hitting percentage. Freshman Ashley Kimes (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley North) joined Koster in double digits with 10 kills.
Syracuse returns to action on Friday, Sept. 14 when it travels to Durham, NH to compete in the University of New Hampshire Tournament. SU opens against host New Hampshire at 7 p.m. and then plays Rhode Island and Brown on Saturday at 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
