
Van Mater Leads SU Volleyball Past Buffalo With Career-High 16 Kills

SYRACUSE, NY- Junior Abby Van Mater (West Chester, PA/Unionville) recorded a career-high 16 kills to lead the Syracuse University women’s volleyball team to a 3-1 win against Buffalo on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at Manley Field House.
With the 30-21, 30-25, 27-30, 30-26 win, the Orangewomen extend their record to 5-3 as they head into their first weekend of BIG EAST competition. The Bulls dropped to 2-5 on the season.
In addition to her 16 kills, Van Mater turned in a personal-best .609 attack line and registered four total blocks. Senior setter Noreen Carroll (La Grange, IL/Lyons Township) tied her career high in kills (nine) and hitting percentage (.750) and dished out 46 assists. Freshman Morgan Jones (Malad, ID/Malad) dominated at the net with a personal-best three solo blocks, and fellow teammates Laura Koster (Houston, TX/Westfield) and Ashley Kimes (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley North) joined Van Mater in double digits with 15 and 10 kills, respectively.
Alexis Bouie led Buffalo with 13 kills, and Larissa LaCour recorded a double-double with 44 assists and 11 digs for the Bulls.
Syracuse returns to action this weekend when it travels to Indiana to face Notre Dame and Valparaiso. The Orangewomen play Notre Dame on Saturday, Sept 22 at 6 p.m. and the Crusaders on Sunday, Sept. 23 at 1 p.m.
