The Syracuse women's volleyball team returns to action on Wednesday, Sept.19 when it hosts Buffalo at 7 p.m. at Manley Field House. The Orangewomen lead the intrastate series 12-2.
SU has not faced an opponent since September 9 when it defeated Jacksonville, 3-0, and extended its record to 4-3. The University of New Hampshire Tournament was cancelled last weekend due to the national tragedy.
Senior co-captain Noreen Carroll (La Grange, IL/Lyons Township) earned ECAC Volleyball Division I Player of the Week and BIG EAST Player of the Week honors for the week of September 10. At the War Eagle Tournament held at Auburn University on September 8-9, the SU setter was named tournament MVP. She was one kill short of a triple-double (9 kills, 28 assists, 16 digs) in the 3-0 win against Auburn, and the nine kills were a career high. Among BIG EAST conference leaders, Carroll is seventh in assists per game with 10.12.
Freshman middle blocker Laura Koster (Houston, TX/Westfield) received weekly BIG EAST honors for the second week in a row. On September 10, Koster earned co-Rookie of the Week honors after being named to her second all-tournament team in as many weeks at the War Eagle Tournament. She recorded her second double-double in a 3-0 win against Jacksonville (15 kills, 14 digs). Koster also tallied career highs in digs (14 versus Jacksonville), hitting percentage (.480 versus Jacksonville) and solo blocks (3 versus Auburn). Among BIG EAST conference leaders, Koster is second in blocks (1.32 pg), fourth in hitting percentage (.359) and fifth in kills (3.88 pg).
Buffalo is 2-4 overall and 0-0 in the Mid-American Conference.
