Syracuse field hockey players Kristin Aronowicz (Exton, Pa./Downingtown) and Missy Grosman (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) earned weekly honors from the BIG EAST in the first installment of the 2001 conference field hockey report. Aronowicz was named co-Offensive Player of the Week, while Grosman earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Aronowicz, a junior midfielder, netted three goals in the first two games of the season. She scored two in a 4-0 win against Albany and one in a 2-0 victory against Miami (Ohio). Aronowicz now has 19 career goals and 45 career points. It is the fifth time in her career that she has earned a weekly award from the BIG EAST.
Grosman, who is being honored by the conference for the first time, led a Syracuse defense that allowed just four shots in two wins and kept Miami (OH) from taking a single shot on goal. The junior sweeper also recorded her first career point, an assist off a penalty corner against Miami (OH).
Syracuse (2-0) faces tough competition this weekend when it plays two games at Princeton. On Saturday, Sept. 8, the Orangewomen meet the host Tigers at 1 p.m. SU faces Northeastern on Sunday, Sept. 9, also at 1 p.m.
