The Kimmel Computer Laboratory, the most heavily used student computing facility on the Syracuse University campus, was rededicated on Wednesday, Sept. 5. The approximately $400,000 renovation project was funded in part from proceeds from the Orangemen's 1999 appearance in the Orange Bowl, the Academic Affairs Functional Improvements Fund and Computing and Media Services.
Chancellor Kenneth A. Shaw presented Director of Athletics Jake Crouthamel with a special gift from Computing and Media Services in recognition of the athletic department's contribution to the renovation project.
The Kimmel Computer Laboratory, which was completely renovated this summer, features state-of-the-art computer technology and a vastly improved and aesthetically pleasing work environment for all University students.
Overall, more than $3 million has been generated by Syracuse's football team's appearances in bowl games. Other projects that have benefited from bowl game revenue have included technology classrooms, Flanagan Gymnasium and the ComArt Building.
