SU senior Opal Jones (Capital Heights, Md.) she won the 60-meter hurdles in a converted hand time of 8.20 seconds and ran an 8.44 in the trials. The time qualifies her for the ECAC Championship and is .01 seconds off the automatic qualifying time of 8.43 for the BIG EAST Championship.
Freshman Jenna Grimaldi (San Mateo, Calif.) won the high jump at her first collegiate meet, clearing 5'7", which qualifies her for the ECAC and BIG EAST Championships. Classmates Johvonne Hernandez (Laguna Vista, TX) and Nicole Kendrick (Lancaster, Ohio) also qualified for the ECAC and BIG EAST Championships in the shot put. Kendrick placed second with a throw of 4511.25", while Hernandez was fourth with a throw of 45'7".00. The freshman duo earned points in the 20lb. weight toss as well, with Hernandez finishing third (52'5.50") and Kendrick fifth (51'8.25").
Senior Aprelle Watkins (Virginia Beach, Va.) won the triple jump with a leap of 39'09.75", which is a BIG EAST and ECAC qualifying mark.
On the men's side, junior Richard Polidore (Chino, Calif.) qualified for the BIG EAST Championship with a 7.00 in the 60-meter dash trials. He placed fourth in the finals with a converted hand time of 6.50 seconds.
Sophomore John Bitok (Kitale, Kenya) ran a BIG EAST-qualifying time of 4:18.08 in the mile, finishing sixth. Junior thrower Tim Adrian (Moorepark, Calif.) placed third in the shot put (51'7.00") and sixth in the weight throw (52'4.00"). Both distances qualified Adrian for the BIG EAST and IC4A Championships.
Syracuse will compete on January 20 at the Greater Boston TC in Boston, Mass.
