
James Scores 33 Points in SU's 89-61 Win Versus Georgetown

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Senior Jaime James (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) scored a career-high 33 points, becoming the 14th player in Orangewomen history to record 1,000 career points, in Syracuse's 89-61 win versus Georgetown on Saturday, Jan. 19 at Manley Field House. The Orangewomen improved to 10-6 on overall and 3-2 in the conference. The Hoyas are now 9-8 overall and 1-5 in the BIG EAST.
After scoring only seven points in the first half, James tallied 26 of Syracuse's 43 points after halftime. She now ranks 13th all-time at SU with 1,004 points. James hit seven three-pointers, the second most in school history. Her 33 points tied the fourth-largest single-game total ever by an Orangewoman. As a team, SU hit a school-record 13 triples.
Syracuse used a 66-percent shooting performance (6-for-9) from behind the arc in the first half to score a season-high 46 points at the break. Sophomore Julie McBride (Mechanicville, N.Y./Catholic Central) led the Orangewomen with 16 points as Syracuse held a 46-32 lead at halftime.
The Orangewomen extended their lead to 20 points with 18:10 remaining, but the Hoyas came back with a 14-5 run to trim the lead to 58-47 with 11:46 left. SU went on a 13-0 run to build the lead back to 24 points at the 8:50 mark. James scored 20 of Syracuse's final 23 points during the last 9:11 of the game.
Four other players scored in double figures for the Orangewomen. McBride finished with 16 points, while senior Jazmine Wright (South Orange, N.J./Columbia), senior Leaf Newman (Perris, Calif./Perris) and sophomore Shannon Perry (Providence, R.I./LaSalle) each contributed 10 points. Wright led Syracuse with seven rebounds. Perry added eight assists and a career-best six steals.
Zsuzsanna Horvath led the Hoyas with 20 points and seven rebounds. Nok Duany added 15, while Mary Lisicky scored 13, including three three-pointers. Syracuse forced 21 turnovers and outrebounded the Hoyas, 31-29. The Orangewomen shot 54.7 percent for the game.
Syracuse's next game is Wednesday, Jan. 23 versus Virginia Tech. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Manley Field House.
