SU Wins Four Titles at Greater Boston TC Invitational

SU senior Opal Jones (Capital Heights, Md./Bishop McNamara) came in second in the 200-meters in 25.16 seconds and won the 60-meter hurdles for the second straight week, posting a time of 8.52 seconds. Jones' time in the 200 qualifies her for the BIG EAST and ECAC Championships. Fellow senior Kawanna Skinner (Durham, N.C./UNC-Charlotte) finished eighth with a time of 9.12 seconds in the hurdles.
Freshman Johvonne Hernandez (Port Isabel, Texas/Port Isabel) won the shot put with a personal-best throw of 46'11.50", while fellow frosh Nicole Kendrick (Lancaster, Ohio/ Lancaster) placed fourth in the event with a distance of 45'7.00". Kendrick alsp placed fourth in the 20lb. weight throw with an ECAC Championship qualifying mark of 52'10.00", while Hernandez was fifth with a throw of 50'8.00". Freshman Jenna Grimaldi (San Mateo, Calif./ St. Ignatius) came in second in the high jump, clearing 5'6.50".
Junior Aprelle Watkins (Virginia Beach, Va./Salem) placed third in the triple jump with a leap of 40'4.50". Freshman Tatiana Warren (Brooklyn, N.Y./Clara Barton) finished fourth with a distance of 38'2.50", qualifying for the BIG EAST Championship.
The men's team excelled in the field, winning two events. Junior Joel Carusone (Slingerland, N.Y./Guilderland) won the pole vault, clearing 15'6.00". The junior duo of throwers, Tim Adrian (Moorepark, Calif./Moorpark) and Steve Bedard (Windsor, Ont./St. Joseph's), placed first and second in the shot put with throws of 53'3.50" and 51'10.00", respectively. Classmate Tim Biever (Jonestown, Pa./North Lebanon) placed third in the shot put (48'2.00"). Sam Prescod (Bridgetown, Barbados/Harrison) rounded out the field events for the Orangemen with a fourth-place finish in the high jump, clearing the bar at 6'4.00".
Sophomore John Bitok (Kitale, Kenya) ran a BIG EAST and IC4A qualifying time of 8:25.41 to take fourth in the 3000-meters. The two-mile relay team of sophomore Mike Czabaj (Avenal, N.J./John F. Kennedy), and freshmen Chris Telesford (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Ford), Brian McNeil (Franklin, Mass./St. John's) and Collin Capano (Corinth, N.Y./Corinth), raced to a time of 7:57.7.
Syracuse will compete on January 25 at the Husky Invitational in Boston, Mass.
