
Orangewomen Get Rematch With #16/17 Hokies Tonight

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse University women's basketball team will try to avenge a 62-56 loss to Virginia Tech on Jan. 5, when it takes on the Hokies tonight at 7 p.m. at Manley Field House.
The Hokies enter the game ranked 16th by the Associated Press and 17th in the coaches poll.
The Orangewomen (10-6 overall, 3-2 BIG EAST) are coming off an 89-61 victory against Georgetown on Jan. 19. Senior guard Jaime James (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) became the 14th Orangewoman to eclipse the 1,000 point mark by posting a career-high 33 points against the Hoyas. James exploded for 26 points in the second half, including seven three-pointers in the win. Sophomore guard Julie McBride (Mechanicville, N.Y./Catholic Central) added 16 points in the win. Seniors Jazmine Wright (South Orange, N.J./Columbia), Leaf Newman (Perris, Calif./Perris/Arizona State), and sophomore Shannon Perry (Providence, R.I./La Salle), each scored 10 points, respectively.
McBride leads the team in scoring with 16.8 points per game, followed by 15.1 from James. Wright is currently at 10.9 points per contest, while Perry and sophomore Chineze Nwagbo (Lanham-Seabrook, Md./Duval) are averaging 10.5 and 10.0, respectively.
The Hokies (15-2, 6-0 BIG EAST) are one of the hottest teams in the country, having won 12 straight. Syracuse native Chrystal Starling led Virginia Tech with 16 points in a 69-50 defeat of St. John?s on Jan. 19. Center Ieva Kublina leads the team in scoring and rebounding with 13.4 and 7.6 per game averages, respectively. Starling (13.1), Sarah Hicks (12.7) and Nicole Jones (10.8) are all averaging double figures for the Hokies.
