
Orangewomen Unable to Stop Notre Dame Winning Streak

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Syracuse University women's basketball team was unable to stop defending national champion Notre Dame's 47-game home-winning streak in a 71-46 loss at the Joyce Center on Tuesday, Jan. 29.
Syracuse (12-7, 5-3 BIG EAST) had trouble generating offense throughout the first half, going on four scoring droughts of 2:30 or more. Notre Dame(12-7, 6-2 BIG EAST) outshot SU from the field, 51.7 percent (15-of-29) to 30.0 percent, (9-of-30) to take a 39-25 lead at intermission.
The Orangewomen were outrebounded 30-13 in the second half and did not hit a field goal until after the 11-minute mark. For the game, SU shot 29.6 percent from the field (15-of-54) and 23.5 percent from three-point range (4-of-17).
Sophomore forward Shannon Perry (Providence, R.I./La Salle) led the Orangewomen with 10 points and six rebounds. Senior guard Jaime James (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) had four steals.
Notre Dame's reigning BIG EAST Rookie of the Week, Jacqueline Batteast, scored 10 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to go along with three blocks. Allison Bustamante came off the bench to lead all scorers with 21 points.
SU will play host to Villanova on Saturday, Feb. 2, at Manley Field House. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
