Women's swimmer Elyse McDonough (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) was selected as the ECAC Division I Female Swimmer of the Week. It is the first such honor for McDonough this season.
McDonough, a sophomore, set two pool records, one school record and captured first place in three events in a dual meet at the University of Connecticut on Jan. 26. She won the 200-individual medley with a time of 2:05.94, the 200-butterfly in 2:04.27, and was a member of the winning 400-medley relay team. Her effort in the 200 individual medley was .06 seconds faster than the former Syracuse University record of 2:06.00, set in 1979 by All-American Robin Butler.
McDonough set a school record in the 200 butterfly (2:03.50) at last year's BIG EAST Championships. Her name is also part of the school record in the 200 medley relay (1:46.61).
The Orangewomen were defeated by the Huskies 138.50-100.50 at the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium. They own a 4-3 record heading into their final dual meet of the season at Seton Hall on Feb. 2.
