More than 180 Syracuse University student-athletes raised $5,525 for the United Way at the fifth annual Dollar Days at the Dome on Saturday, October 5 prior to the SU football game against Pittsburgh. Student-athletes from SU's women's rowing, men's crew, men's soccer, softball, women's lacrosse, and men's and women's swimming and diving, and men's and women's track & field interacted with fans outside the Carrier Dome. The generous community responded with great support for the United Way as it has every year.
In 2001, SU student-athletes collected more than $10,000 for the United Way September 11th Fund on September 22 prior to SU's game against Auburn.
Dollar Days at the Dome is just one of many community service projects SU student-athletes are involved with in this area. At the SU football game against Rhode Island, the women's softball and women's lacrosse teams distributed AFCA Child Identification Kits to fans in the Carrier Dome.
For each of the past five years, SU Chancellor Kenneth Shaw has recognized SU's student-athletes with the Chancellor's Award for Public Service because of their involvement in the Syracuse community.
