
Orangewomen Row At The Head of The Charles This Weekend

The Syracuse University women’s rowing team enters three boats in the world’s largest regatta, the Head of the Charles on the Charles River in Boston on Sunday, Oct. 20.
Tri-captain Marisa Begley (Folsom, NJ/Holy Spirit) will cox the varsity eight. Senior tri-captains Nicole Garofalo (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) and Lesley Wolf (Syracuse, NY/Nottingham) row in the eight and four seats for the championship eight boat. Last year the championship eight finished 11th in a field of 53 crews.
Sophomore Makiko Muraoka (San Mateo, CA/Notre Dame) will cox the championship four of junior Michelle Garren (Avon, MA/Fontbonne Academy), senior Sarah Skelcher (Hamden, CT/Hamden), senior Emily Havalchak (Corning, NY/Corning East) and junior Juliet Bonczkowski (Berkeley, CA/Berkeley).
Erin McLaughlin (Poughkeepsie, NY/Poughkeepsie) will cox the youth four of Ineke DeSimone (Rowayton, CT/Brien McMahon), Lindsey Huemann (Ballston Spa, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake), Andrea Mueller (Folsom, CA/Folsom) and Kayla Ryan (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool). The youth four placed second last year.
The youth four will start off for the Orangewomen at 9 a.m. The championship four will row the three-mile course at 3:21 p.m., and the championship eight will race in the final competition of the day at 4 p.m.
