Varsity Eight Rowing Finishes In Top 20 At Head Of The Charles

BOSTON, MA - The Syracuse University women’s rowing team had a boat finish in the top 20 in the championship eight race at the Head of the Charles, the world’s largest regatta held on the Charles River in Boston, on Sunday, Oct. 20.
SU’s varsity eight boat finished 20th in the championship eight race. Junior tri-captain Marisa Begley (Folsom, NJ/Holy Spirit) coxed the boat, while senior Bonnie Champman (Gainesville, FL/Eastside) was in the bow seat. The Orangewomen crossed the finish line in 17:29.055. US Rowing won the event with a time of 16:12.903.
SU’s youth four placed 16th in 21:16.016. Freshman Erin McLaughlin (Poughkeepsie, NY/Poughkeepsie) coxed the boat, while Ineke DeSimone (Rowayton, CT/Brien McMahon) served as the stroke.
Syracuse’s championship four boat placed 26th in the three-mile race. Sophomore Makiko Muraoka (San Mateo, CA/Notre Dame) coxed the championship four boat.
Syracuse returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 26 at the Head of the Schuylkill.
