
Women's Soccer Loses At No. 18 Notre Dame, 6-0

Boxscore Notre Dame's Randi Scheller headed in a corner kick from Amanda Guertin past SU goalkeeper $Emily Kowalczyk (Dayton, Ohio/Centerville HS)$ for a 1-0 lead 3:25 into the game. Scheller struck again 1:05 later, burying a chip pass from Katie Thorlakson inside the right post for a 2-0 Irish lead. ND increased its first half lead to 3-0 on another corner kick opportunity. This time it was Mary Boland heading in Guertin's kick at 23:47.
Kowalczyk stopped six shots, but the Orangewomen were outshot 14-0 in the first half.
Thorlakson tapped in a pass from Candace Chapman at 61:51 and Boland netted her second goal at 68:25 to push the lead to 5-0. Amy Warner scored her ninth goal of the season at 78:57 for the final 6-0 score.
With the win, Notre Dame increased its home winning streak against BIG EAST teams to 44.
For the game, Kowalczyk made 11 saves. She now has 64 for the season, moving her past Julie Slack for the fifth-highest single-season total for an Orangewoman. Lauren Kent made three saves in the second half, combining with Erika Bohn to earn the shutout for the Fighting Irish.
The Orangewomen play their final road game of the season on Sunday, October 27, at 1 p.m. against Pittsburgh. SU plays host to Cornell in its season finale on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. in the Soccer Stadium.
