The victory ended an 11-game winless streak for SU, dating back to a 1-0 overtime win against Binghamton on Sept. 8.
Pittsburgh's Lauren Sciocchetti collected a rebounded shot and buried the ball in the net from 25 yards out for a 1-0 lead at the 32:53.
Galas tied the game at 40:15 with her fourth goal of the season on a pass from sophomore Taryn Provencher (Bedford, N.H./West HS). Syracuse took a 2-1 lead 2:25 after intermission on Galas' second goal of the game. A handball was called on Pittsburgh just outside the Panther goal box, setting up a direct kick, which Galas converted.
SU junior captain Erica Mastrogiacomo (Weymouth, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) added an insurance goal at 63:15. Galas and sophomore Ariane Kaminsky (Alexandria, Va./Hayfield Secondary) earned assists on the play. It was the first career point for Kaminsky.
Freshman Emily Kowalczyk (Dayton, Ohio/Centerville HS) made three saves in the first half for Syracuse. Sophomore Shannon Myers (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield HS) spelled Kowalczyk in the second half and made two saves to earn her first victory of the season.
Syracuse plays host to Cornell in its season finale on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. in the Soccer Stadium.
