
Recap from the Price Modern Lacrosse for Leukemia Tournament

The Syracuse men's lacrosse team played three games at the Price Modern Lacrosse for Leukemia Tournament on Oct. 5, at the McDonogh School in Owings Mills, Md.
In their first game, the Orangemen defeated Maryland, 9-8. SU built a 6-2 halftime lead against the Terps, thanks to three goals by senior attackman Michael Springer (Ridgewood, N.J.) in the opening period. Springer finished as SU's leading scorer with three goals and two assists. Junior attackman Brian Nee (Cockeysville, Md.) added two goals in the opening stanza. Senior midfielder Mike Smith (Baldwin, N.Y.) tallied SU's fifth goal against Maryland. Junior midfielder Steve Vallone (Corning, N.Y.) recorded two assists in the first half.
Alex Zink (Rowayton, Conn.), Steve Lykudis (Camillus, N.Y.), and Jake Plunket (Cortland, N.Y.) each scored goals against Maryland in the second period.
Junior Nick Donatelli (Endicott, N.Y.) played in goal for SU against the Terps. He posted eight saves.
Game two featured Syracuse versus Towson. The Orangemen jumped out to a 4-1 lead. The final score ended up being tied at 5-5. Junior midfielder Sean Lindsay (Cortland Manor, N.Y.) registered SU's first goal. Nee, Springer and freshman midfielder Greg Rommel (Syracuse, N.Y.) also recorded goals in the first period. Nee scored his fourth goal of the tournament in the second half against Towson.
Sophomore Jay Pfeifer (Towson, Md.) played goalie for SU in the second game. He finished with five saves.
UMBC defeated Syracuse, 9-6, in the third game of the afternoon. Pfeifer and sophomore goalie Andy Starr (Weston, Mass.) shared time in the goal. They combined for three saves.
UMBC came out firing and took a 7-1 lead after the first stanza of play. Lindsay scored SU's lone goal in the opening period. The Orangemen regrouped to outscore the Retrievers, 5-2, in the second half of action. Smith, Pat Hogan (St. Louis, Mo.), Kyle Olson (Columbus, Ohio), and freshman Tim Raschdorf (Pennington, N.J.) all tallied goals against UMBC. Springer had three assists in the second half.
