
Orangemen Duel to 0-0 Tie at Army

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Sophomore goalkeeper David Rabazzi (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) earned his first career shutout in his first start of the season as the Syracuse men's soccer team tied at 0-0 at Army on Tuesday, October 8. The Orangemen are now 6-5-1, while the Black Knights are 2-8-2.
Rabazzi faced nine shots in the game and made two saves. The Orangemen outshot Army, 15-9, but the two teams combined for only five shots on goal. Kevin Larrabee recorded his second shutout of the season for the Black Knights, making three saves.
The forward trio of senior Guido Cristofori (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport), junior Kirk Johnson (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown) and sophomore Jarett Park (Tully, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) combined to take nine of the Orangemen's 15 shots.
It was the Orangemen's first 0-0 tie since September 22, 2000 at Georgetown. It was the Orangemen's third overtime game of the season, and first double overtime game since a 2-1 loss to Cornell in the finale of the 2001 campaign. Syracuse is now 2-0-1 in overtime contests this season.
The tie snapped SU's five-game winning streak versus the Black Knights. Army's last win in the series was on November 2, 1994.
Syracuse begins a three-game homestand versus ranked BIG EAST opponents on Saturday, October 12 when it hosts 14th-ranked Rutgers at 1 p.m. in the SU Soccer Stadium. The Orangemen face 15th-ranked Boston College at home on Wednesday, October 16 at 7 p.m. before welcoming third-ranked St. John's on Saturday, October 19 at 7 p.m.
