SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Six Syracuse players scored in double figures as the Orangemen defeated Upstate New York AAU, 110-88, in their second exhibition game of the season, Tuesday at the Carrier Dome.
Freshman Carmelo Anthony scored 23 points in 24 minutes to lead Syracuse. Senior Kueth Duany contributed 19 second-half points and finished with 22 in the game.
Point guard Gerry McNamara had 13 points and eight assists, and sophomore Hakim Warrick finished with 12 points and seven rebounds. Freshman Matt Gorman scored 12 points and sophomore Jeremy McNeil had 10 points off the bench.
Syracuse all-time leading scorer Lawrence Moten, who was one of six former Orangemen in the visitors' lineup, led all players with 29 points. Allen Griffin and Malik Campbell, also former Orangemen, each scored 10 points in the game.
SU jumped out to an early 7-1 lead, but Upstate NY AAU came back to lead by as many as five, 26-21, midway through the first half. The Orangemen led by 10, 46-36, at halftime.
A 12-2 run in the second half put Syracuse up 81-62. Junior Tyrone Albright hit a three-pointer to push SU past the 100-point mark.
Sophomore Josh Pace led both teams with nine assists. McNeil and sophomore Craig Forth each had a game-high eight rebounds.
Syracuse hosts Valparaiso on Sunday, Nov. 24, at 1:00 p.m. in its first regular season home game.
