Orangewomen Looking For Singles Title After First Day At Eck Classic

Freshman Wei-Ming Leong and junior Alexa Konstand lost their first-round Gold Flight matches. Sophomore Trine Lise Juliussen lost her second match in the flight to Kelly Nelson of Notre Dame, 7-6(3), 6-0.
Senior Masha Kabanova and junior Daniela Kaluskova lost their first matches of the Blue Flight Singles bracket. After each winning their second matches, they with both compete Saturday for a chance at ninth place in the 16-player bracket.
In the Green Flight, sophomore Natalie Ackerman lost her first two matches as an Orangewoman, first to Catie McLevish of Purdue, and then to Jami Kirk of the host Fighting Irish.
Syracuse's normally strong doubles pairs each lost their first-round matches, with three of the four tandems losing to pairs from Notre Dame. Konstand and Ackerman will play a pair from Indiana in Consolation Match A Saturday morning.
The Orangewomen will continue to compete through the weekend, with the winners of the brackets being decided on Sunday.
