SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Sophomore Hakim Warrick scored a career-high 23 points and added four steals as Syracuse defeated UNC Greensboro, 92-65, Tuesday night at the Carrier Dome. The win extended SU's winning streak to four, while the Spartans drop to 3-4 on the season.
Warrick opened the game by sinking six of Syracuse's first eight points. He finished the half with 16 points and three assists. A 13-3 Syracuse run gave the Orangemen a 45-35 half-time advantage.
Freshman Carmelo Anthony scored 14 points in the second half. Midway through the period, Syracuse went on a 9-2 streak to built its lead to 21, 70-49. A three-point bucket in that run, followed by a free throw, helped freshman Gerry McNamara to 11 second-half points. The Orangemen led by as many at 28 with 1:13 left in the game, 90-62.
Warrick shot 9-for-14 from the floor as he helped the Orangemen to a 51.4 shooting percentage. Anthony finished with 22 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals. McNamara had 17 points, three assists, and three steals in the game. He also tied his career high with four three-point baskets and had a career-high three rebounds. Senior Kueth Duany added 11 points, including two dunks, on the night.
James Maye led the Spartans with 19 points and eight boards. Jay Joseph and Josh Gross were also in double figures, scoring 11 points each. Ronnie Taylor finished with nine points and a game-high six assists.
The Orangemen next host Binghamton University on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 7:00 p.m., in the Carrier Dome.
