SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Freshman #Carmelo Anthony# notched his fifth double-double in six games as Syracuse recorded a 94-58 victory against Binghamton Saturday at the Carrier Dome. The win marked Jim Boeheim's 850th game as Syracuse head coach, and it was the third time in the last four games that Syracuse scored at least 90 points.
The Orangemen used a 10-3 run to start the game, highlighted by dunks from sophomores #Craig Forth# and #Hakim Warrick#, and Anthony. Syracuse went on to hit 17-of-its-first-23 shots (.739) in the first 12 minutes of the half. The Orangemen built their lead to 21 points, 38-17, with eight minutes left in the half. The Bearcats came back to within 12, 48-36, before Syracuse made the final two shots of the period and took a 52-36 lead at halftime.
Warrick hit his second dunk of the game to start the second half, before Binghamton rattled off the next six points. The Orangemen responded with 14 straight markers to give them a 68-42 edge. Syracuse led by as many as 35 points, 87-52, with 4:34 left to play, before ending with a 36-point win. The Orangemen limited the Bearcats to 23.5 percent shooting after the intermission, and 30.6 percent in the game.
Syracuse had five players in double figures for the first time since a Jan. 8, 2002 outing, against Seton Hall. Anthony led all players with 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting, including one-of-two three-pointers, and all three of his free throws. Anthony also tied his career highs with 11 rebounds and five assists. Senior #Kueth Duany# finished with 19 points, seven boards, and four helpers. Warrick had 16 points and nine caroms, while Forth and sophomore #Josh Pace# each finished with 10 points.
Junior #Gary Hall# made his first basket as an Orangeman during the last minute of the game. Junior #Jeremy McNeil# notched five blocks on the night to give him 133 in his career. McNeil currently ranks eighth on SU's career blocked shots list, seven behind Dan Schayes.
Syracuse next hosts Georgia Tech on Saturday, Dec. 21, at noon in the Carrier Dome.
