Four Orangemen Earn All-BIG EAST Honors

Leading the way was junior Jamel Riddle (Meriden, Conn.), who was recognized for his efforts as a wide receiver and punt returner. Riddle caught 41 passes for a team-leading 626 yards and five touchdowns. He was second in the conference with 23 punt returns for 316 yards, averaging 13.7 yards a return. Riddle was named the Co-BIG EAST Special Teams Player of the Week after he returned two punts for 90 yards against Auburn, including an 85-yard touchdown return.
Senior wide receiver and co-captain David Tyree (Montclair, N.J.) was also named to the offensive second team. Tyree caught 36 passes for 559 yards and three touchdowns, including nine catches for 229 yards in a 50-42 victory against eighth-ranked Virginia Tech. His 15.5 yards per catch ranked third in the conference.
Senior middle linebacker Clifton Smith (Freeport, N.Y.) and junior defensive tackle Louis Gachelin (Miami, Fla.) were both named to the defensive second team.
Smith, a four-year starter, posted double-digit tackle performances in 8-of-12 games and led the conference in tackles (137), tackles per game (11.4) and ranked fifth with 15 tackles for a loss. He ranked 20th in the nation in tackles and 13th in solo tackles (7.42 per game). In addition, Smith earned Honorable Mention All-America recognition from CNN/SI.
Gachelin led SU and finished third in the conference with a career-high 8.5 sacks. For the season, Gachelin had 10 quarterback hurries, forced three fumbles and 18 of his 48 tackles went for a loss. He posted career-highs against Pittsburgh with two sacks, seven tackles and one forced fumble.
