Binghamton is in its second season of Division I play. The Bearcats, members of the America East Conference, were 9-19 a campaign ago, and are off to a 4-2 start this winter. Binghamton most recently competed in the Iowa State Challenge last weekend, winning a first-round matchup with Denver (74-69), before losing in the title game to the Cyclones (86-56).
Al Walker is in his third season at the Binghamton helm. He brings a 27-35 record into the SU game, and owns an overall coaching mark of 159-206. He was the head coach at Chaminade when the Orangemen won, 82-44, in the 1998 Maui Classic. Walker was the head coach at Cornell in 1993 when the Big Red lost to SU, 95-59.
Senior guard Anthony Green leads the Bearcats in scoring (17.8) and assist (4.67) averages.
Freshman forward Carmelo Anthony tops the Orangemen with averages of 25.0 points per game, and 9.8 rebounds per game. He posted double-doubles in four of his first five collegiate games. Sophomore Hakim Warrick is second on the squad with 15.4 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. He netted a career-high 23 points in Tuesday’s 92-65 win against UNC-Greensboro.
Fans can listen to the game in the Syracuse area on the SU Radio Network, 1260 AM. Voice of the Orange Mark Johnson will handle the play-by-play duties, while Matt Park will provide color commentary. The game will also be televised on tape delay on Time Warner Cable channel 13.
