SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Freshman Carmelo Anthony recorded his third straight double-double to lead the Orangemen to a 98-68 win over intrastate rival Colgate on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at the Carrier Dome. Anthony scored 27 points and 11 rebounds to bring his season averages to 27.3 points per game and 10.7 boards per game. He shot 10-for-19 from the floor, and had a game-high four steals.
Syracuse jumped out to an early 7-2 advantage just two minutes into the game. The Orangemen connected on 10 of their first 11 shots from the field, as they built a 22-11 margin. Later in the period, Colgate went on an 11-3 run to take it's only lead of the game, 46-44, with less than two minutes to play in the first. A 10-1 Orangeman streak made the half-time score 54-47.
Syracuse quickly built its second-half advantage to 16 points. The Orangemen closed out the game by scoring the last 16 points of the contest. In the second half, the Syracuse defense held the Raiders to 21.6 percent shooting from the floor, and 14.3 percent from beyond the three-point arc.
Five Orangemen finished with double-digit points. Senior Kueth Duany notched season-highs in points (21) and rebounds (7). Sophomore Hakim Warrick tied his season-high with 15 points and added seven rebounds. Freshman Gerry McNamara finished with 14 points and a career-high six assists. Junior Jeremy McNeil scored a career-high 12 points off the bench, and added a career-high six blocks. In the process, McNeil moved past Otis Hill and into eighth on the SU career blocked shot list (125).
Syracuse is next in action Friday, Dec. 6, when it hosts Cornell for a 7 p.m. game at the Carrier Dome.
