SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Freshman Carmelo Anthony recorded his fourth-straight double-double of the season as the Orangemen rolled to an 85-62 victory against Cornell Friday night at the Carrier Dome. Anthony scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and he dished out a career-high five assists.
Sophomore Hakim Warrick notched his second double-double of the year with a season-high 20 points and 10 boards while shooting 9-for-13 from the field. Warrick also registered a career-high five steals, and three of them resulted in dunks at the other end.
With the game tied at 12, Syracuse went on an 18-5 streak to open up a 13-point advantage, 30-17, midway through the first half. The Orangemen took a 44-27 lead into the lockerroom. Warrick was 6-for-8 from the floor, and scored 13 points to go along with eight rebounds in the half. Anthony played all but one minute, and recorded 12 first-half.
The Orangemen extended their lead to 25 points, 54-29, early in the second after a five-point outburst by senior Kueth Duany. The Big Red used a 16-2 run, keyed by Cody Toppert's four three-point buckets, to cut Syracuse's advantage to 11 points, 56-45. The Orangemen finished the game with a 13-3 run to end with an 85-62 victory.
Duany scored 13 points and dished out five assists on the night. Junior walk-on Andrew Kouwe recorded his first career points on a pair of free throws and registered his first assist late in the game. Sophomore Xzavier Gaines also notched his first career points with a field goal. Gaines joined the team just two days ago after playing football for the Orangemen in the fall.
Syracuse's next home game is Tuesday, Dec. 10, when the Orangemen welcome UNC-Greensboro to the Carrier Dome for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
